The International Equine Conference on Laminitis and Diseases of the Foot is only a month away. The conference returns to West Palm Beach, Florida November 1-3 with a triple-focus program in scientific and clinical causes and treatment of laminitis; the conference is adding a third track this year with 21 lectures and abstracts on equine foot science and hoof biomechanics; a special half-day program for horse owners is planned, as well. In all, 60 faculty and abstract presenters from five continents will cover new and emerging aspects of the science of the horse's foot and the disease of laminitis.

Today the conference announced that 2011's popular pilot poster session for attendees, known as "Future Forward", would be back this year. The poster session will allow conference attendees to present their own research, case studies and professional accomplishments and will stimulate dialogue among professionals at the conference.

Dr. Angelique Barbara, a Florida chiropractor, presented a poster on using athletic tape on laminitic horses in 2011.
In 2011, Germany's Christoph von Horst, DVM, PHD, created a Future Forward poster to explain how his unique plastinated hoof specimen are perfect for teaching people about laminitis by preserving unusual cases.
If proof was needed of the success of the 2011 poster session, five Future Forward presenters will be at the podium as either abstract presenters or faculty members in 2013.

Poster entry forms are available for download on the home page of the laminitisconference.com web site. Conference attendees can begin planning by marking their calendars: an abstract or summary description form must be submitted by Friday, October 23. At least one author listed on the poster must be present to hang, take down and defend the poster during a judging session that will take place during the conference.

Resources for professionals who are not accustomed to preparing posters are available on the guidelines document, including the coaching/consultation services of a poster expert.

Examples of some of the topics that might be explored in a poster presentation include case studies, cumulative case reviews, new product trials, stable management protocols, equine rehabilitation methods, and "how to" instructions.

The 2013 "Future Forward" poster session will be in addition to a scholarship poster session for vet students and a special selection of conference program abstracts presented in poster format.

Remember the October 23rd deadline for submitting an application to submit the poster; upon acceptance of the form, you will have a week to finish and print your poster and either bring it with you to Florida or print it on arrival. A "Fast Signs" poster-printing shop is located near the Marriott West Palm Beach, where the conference will be held.
